  • It was the last day that we were allowed in our dorms for the year. Most everyone I knew had already moved out and I was the last person to leave (minus the RAs). The doors lock themselves at 6. I had about 2 hours to piled the rest of my stuff in my van. I had almost enough to fill all available space in it. By the time I left it was 4:15 on Saturday.

The week prior I was so busy with exams that I could say goodbye to one of my friends but fortunately she lived on the way to my home. So I took a detour on my already 3-hour long trip home. My entire life at that point was packed in my car with me and went to get pizza with my friend. I probably spent two hours just hanging out with her and her family. Then I eventually set out with about 2 hours left to go.

I thought I’d take the scenic route. It’s a little longer but very beautiful when the sun sets. About half an hour later in the middle of a county highway I had only been on once before, I was pulled over for the very first time. I haven’t even been stopped for speeding. I thought well maybe I was speeding but I was only doing 5 over. Of all the things to pull me over for, one of my headlights was out. My mom had told me the week before but I was too busy to do anything. I also thought, it’s daylight out and I’m getting pulled over for having a headlight out? I wonder if Odysseus had it this bad.
